The Luminous Night Sky

What do you love most about the night skies? Is it the stars, or is it the endless darkness that amazes you? The night sky is an overall mystery to contemplate. Humans are drawn to the when, where, how and why of it. It represents opposing views of the question , "Is there a God who created all this?” with “The Big Bang Theory" or Creationism as the two most probable answers ,while expanding to accommodating every possibility in between. Most people say they love watching the night sky as it gives them a sense of safety and calmness; but also there are people who can't watch the night sky for too long, they say it scares them- looking at nothing but just the darkness that would engulf them any minute. People have different opinions for the never-ending night sky; For some it's the twinkling bright stars that gives them hope, but for some it's where their mind can imagine all kinds of night terrors looking at the thorough darkness. For some people the night skies offer as a cure to depression, peaceful as they say looking at it; as for some it's like the reminder of the people they've lost in their lives. The night sky connects a person emotionally- it can be either hopeful and peaceful or sad and heartbroken as it varies in people, if they are Nyctophile or nyctophobic.

Minds that are afraid of night skies says it's because of the unknown mysterious 'wanderers' that terrify them. At the end of the 17th century John Dennis made a journey through the Alps, and whereas he had previously expressed feelings for the beauty of nature as “delight that is consistent with reason”, he described his experience of the journey as “once a pleasure to the eye as music to the ear, but mingled with Horrors, and sometimes almost with despair”. There's this silly thought that I'm sure has passed through all minds- "What if gravity somehow failed me and I started to drift away from Earth and what if I panicked, sending myself careening farther and farther out until I'm eventually suffocated or exploded or imploded and just died." It is somewhat closely related to "Casadastraphobia"( The fear of falling into the sky) some say they could feel eyes, billions of them, gazing back with curiosity, fury, hunger, sorrow. Like the stars were eyes, or the darkness, or space itself. And they could feel a void—the void—expansive...empty…enticing. People fear looking up at the empty dark sky for what if they look up in curiosity and see something they shouldn't have... the darkness...the hatred...the horror.

Whereas the minds that are fond of the night skies have a different approach. They say the huge mass of stars in the sky, it makes them feel a lot better. By looking deeply into the sky you can find new hope in moments of despair. You are offered a chance to slow down, take a deep breath and expand your soul by connecting to nature and embracing freedom. People also express their love for the night sky by saying "When things around you look fuzzy, uncertain and disorderly, you can look up and see breathtaking magnificence, and something powerful to remind you that there can be a better direction for you to take and things can turn from gloomy to perfect." Looking at the sky gives you inner peace because it manages to make you feel special and yet makes you understand how small your place in the universe is. You are made to realize how insignificant you are but understanding and accepting that makes you significant. You find peace because the sky makes you humble. The absence of anything, and the feeling of otherworldly, makes night sky so mystical and beautiful.

What can you spot looking at the night sky? The moon, the stars that accompany the moon, the faded clouds, hm? But the night sky has a lot than what we can spot with our naked eyes. Have you ever spotted a planet looking at the sky? You might have, but were just not aware about it. The planets are far away from us and appears just a stars enough to fool us, though there are some planets close to us that we can differentiate from the stars like The Venus, or The mars. Next time you go sky gazing , try to spot the things that are looking at you from the far end.
